Xu Ma is currently an Electrical Engineer with the Optimization and Control Group at PNNL. He received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University (ISU), Ames, IA, in 2016. Before joining PNNL, Xu was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at ISU, working together with Drs. Nicola Elia and Umesh Vaidya.

During his Ph.D. and postdoctoral study, Xu proposed a continuous-time, primal-dual dynamics approach to solve non-convex optimization with strong duality. For certain networked applications (e.g., AC-OPF), the proposed approach exhibits a node-level distributed computing structure. Besides the research on optimization algorithms, Xu also studied the data-driven optimal control of non-linear systems using Koopman operator theory.
